Support for Adopters and Long-term Foster Carers using the Thrive Approach

Author: Kate Anthony

National Adoption Week ,this year managed by First4Adoption, is set to take place from 19th- 25th October with the theme being ‘Too old at 4?’.

All children need a loving, stable home. They need parents who will stick by them through the good times and the bad. Adopted/ fostered children often need extra support and love to help them overcome their troubled backgrounds, make sense of who they are and grow up to be safe and secure.

If you are an adoptive parent or Foster Carer you might like to check out these courses to help you gain a deeper understanding and learn how to manage the special challenges, joys and difficulties presented by adopted and fostered children. They cover such things as:

• how children react and cope with separation, grief, anxiety and loss

• strategies and activities to address early developmental interruptions

• the importance of play and the creative arts in supporting a child’s emotional development

• to devise an action plan to support your child’s emotional needs using Thrive-Online
