I have started to make worry beads with the children in our school, it has a great impact on them and without many distractions in class.
They are simple to make and I recently made them as a whole class activity with Year 5.

Resources needed:
1 pipe cleaner.
Wool
Beads.
Scissors.

Time:
1:1 apx 15 minutes, depending on age.
small group, 30 minutes.

Instructions:
Fold pipe cleaner in half.
Thread one bead on.
Leave a loop with the pipe cleaner.
Gather some lengths of wool and locate the middle.
Push the wool through the pipe cleaner loop and put the ends of the wool through the loop of the wool to wrap around the pipe cleaner. Hold tight and pull tightly to form a knot.
Push the bead up to the top.
Thread on some beads to fill two thirds of the pipe cleaner, this allows movement to push beads up and down.
Fold spikey ends of pipe cleaners back on themselves.
Wrap wool around the end to cover the ends of the pipe cleaners and stop beads coming off.

Thank you for this, will have a go. I have done something similar. We call them breathing wands and use

1 pipe cleaner (I found some extra fluffy ones in Wilkos which are extra nice to touch)
6 beads (choosing favourite colours or colours that remind child of a happy and relaxed time)

Make a loop at one end of pipe cleaner twisting it to hide spiky end. Thread on 6 beads and make a loop at the other end of the pipe cleaner. The idea being that all the beads start at one end of the pipe cleaner and as you slide the first you take a breath in then with the second bead you breath out, if you need more than 3 deep breaths slide them back one by one the other way breathing deeply as you go.
